Atherton Community School

Atherton, Manchester

Refurbishment and fit out of a 5500sqm derelict 1960s Secondary School to provide accommodation for 450 secondary school students and 200 sixth form students.
The building underwent an extensive but selective strip out through out to create more free flowing circulation and manageable flow of students.
Additionally, the demolition of 4 storey 1960’s Science block was carried out to create a centralised play area with spectacular views from the main school building.
General Landscaping of the site provided new parking and better access and way finding throughout.
Works included the replacement of all windows, following dismal performance in thermal modelling, complete replacement of M&E services throughout and conversion to a fully accessible and DDA compliant site.
Management under separate contract of the FF&E.

Completed whilst at Innes Associates.
